Steven C. Preston, Senior Advisor, joined the New Mountain Capital team in June 2009. Mr. Preston is a highly-regarded leader with demonstrated success in advancing business strategies, managing people and improving service quality and efficiency through better business processes and technology.

Mr. Preston served in the President's Cabinet as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) from 2008 to 2009 where he managed 8,600 employees and a budget of over $50 billion while implementing an aggressive plan to improve Americans' access to mortgage capital, ensure disaster victims' access to housing, and rebuild public housing in New Orleans.

From 2006 to 2008 Mr. Preston served as Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Under Mr. Preston's leadership, SBA significantly improved Federal programs that assist disaster victims and small businesses and implemented the most extensive employee development initiative in the agency's history. SBA was rated "Most Improved" among 31 major federal agencies in the 2008 Best Places to Work survey by the Partnership for Public Service and American University's Institute for the Study of Public Policy.

From 1997 - 2006 Mr. Preston served first as Chief Financial Officer and then Executive Vice President of Strategic Services of The ServiceMaster Company. While at ServiceMaster Mr. Preston led initiatives to improve customer experience, provide employees with better tools, and increase productivity. ServiceMaster provides a variety of branded home and business services through 5,000 owned and franchised locations by over 75,000 employees making over 45 million service calls annually.

Mr. Preston received his B.A. from Northwestern University with Highest Distinction and his M.B.A. from University of Chicago. Earlier in his career, Mr. Preston worked as an investment banker and at First Data Corporation.
